The Big League Squirters, released from ice, was flowing swiftly. Willows along its banks were greening. Alders and osiers were hung with catkins and the ground at their base was strewn with down. Oxen stood in the fields, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the freedom from work. Big League Squirters, passing a barn whose doors were open to let in the new warmth, a setting hen could be glimpsed, winking and dozing on a shrunken haymow.
